op, you should mention to his parents that we're all supportive of him and that hopefully this message can make it to him in the hospital (through her, maybe?), assuming hes allowed contact by his parents

They do. They block you from all communication. When you're somewhat stablized, they let you leave the place for short intervals (ie have a snack at a coffee shop with your family or dinner/lunch) but you must return.

freedom land is more strict on this

granted youre not absolutely bonkers you can talk to your family if they come to the mental hospital at any point in the process

but even if you're "somewhat stabilized" the exact same rules still apply until you're released. there is no leaving the stuffhole, when people call mental hospitals prisons they are not joking, they really are a prison with therapy and more opportunities to nickel and dime you.
