That isn't to say you can't chain them.

That, on the other hand, IS a way to use them for defense.

Do tamed exotic pets (Dragons, Firemen, etc.) attack hostiles? I know I've gotten a Dungeon Master numerous times and could tame crazy animals and stuff with him, but never found out if those tame animals attacked invaders or other hostile animals.

Does anyone have a good link to reveal.exe?
I need a mirror that isnt YourFileHost

Muffin : look on the wiki?

Also, I struck earth for the Datarealms succession game today.

We are on the top of a huge, barren, freezes-in-the-winter cliff.
There is a brook with a 41-story waterfall.
I actually used the cliff face as a water drain rather than tring to do something more usual.
A dog has killed a troglodyte(maybe two).
A cat has killed a ratman.

I am not sure what happened but there was a dead goat, a dead batman, and an injured batman in the northwest corner of the map a couple in-game months ago.  I personally think that the goat got pissed off and it took two batmen to kill it, and one didn't make it anyway.

To get to trees so that I can have more than three beds, I have to go south 70-100 units, east 30-50, and down 12 z-levels.
Then the trees are another 30 units east after that, but there is no more digging.

EDIT: Also, we have a chasm AND a cave!

AWSHUM SCIENHAXIC DISCOVERY!

If you put an item on top of something that's going to cave in (Say, put a log ontop of a 1x1 pillar made by fail channel digging), the cloud is negated by the object falling!

Not tested with DWARVES yet.

Dwarves do not cancel it.

Ever.

And it menaces with spikes of bread too.

I think I could make this entire fort out of bauxite and still have plenty left over.

Cancel that, the doors and stuff will all be platinum or silver.

Or made of precious gems.

But noone will have beds, because it's going to take my two miners forever to make that staircase down to the shelf where they are.

Then I think all the trees are dead.  So I will still need to buy more.

I also made a new game, one with a nice temperate climate and a visible magma vent at the surface.

I dug an elaborate underground magma channel system, blocking off the fire imps with Bauxite Fortifications (They let liquids through, and keep nasty critters out). Now I have a steady supply of magma, but then I accidently uncovered a separate underground magma pool, with 3 loving fire men in there. Luckily I plugged up the hole with a bauxite floor panel and they haven't bothered me yet. My real problem now is the loving rhesus Macaques (monkeys). They're stealing everything! I just hope weapon traps can stop these guys, otherwise I'll have to draft my miners to go beat the living stuff out of them.

Edit: also the wiki doesn't say whether tame animals engage hostiles, it just says they don't attack dwarves, and then starts talking about further training tamed dogs. I might need to search the bay12 forums some more, so far no luck.

LEY GHASP!

My metalworker has been taken by a Fey Mood!

And she's using all my Admantite!

EDIT: She forged an Artifact, Admantite warhammer. And now she's legendary. Everything may potentially die now.

GHASP

IF IT IS VALUABLE PREPARE FOR A WAVE OF loving IMMIGRANTS
I SUGGEST YOU LOCK YOUR DOORS WHEN THEY COME OR BUILD A PIT WITH A DRAWBRIDGE

I like immigrants.

:D

EDIT: It's just, now I have no clue what jobs to give them. The entire fortress was self-supporting with 7 dwarves, and now I have 27. Plus horses/pets.

Maybe I'll make them guards?
