That 'un works. Expect an update from me in a little bit, in the meantime, can you explain what your plans were concerning farming?(i.e what seeds & farms do you have, what were you planning with them), because I plan to do a lot food-wise.
Edit;
Will do my log here as I go along.
1st Granite, Early SpringI have taken rule of this fort--"CloisterCrush", as the residents call it.
I am at a loss as to what I might do first-- the fort appears to be in ample condition, a work force of 15, good plant stocks and--imagine my surprise-- enough drinks to last a fortress many times our size for years.
I have made a chart of our stocks below. So, for now I am taking a moment to look over the fortress, and see if there are any matters that might require my attention. I also plan to look further into what my predecessor had planted.
It appears that my predecessor had chosen Plump helmets as the crop of choice-- a fine decision, seeing as they can both be brewed & eaten raw. It appears he has many other kinds of seed too, I will carve out planting areas for whenever we have the resources to plant more.
Whats this? We have sapphires laying around in someones room! I must construct a treasury at once. Whoever this dwarf is, my predecessor must've seen something in him. I'll keep my eye on him, but I must move these sapphires somewhere safer.
Among closer inspection, I have found that we have many other valuables laying around. The treasury will be very useful to us.
As I was observing the outer areas of the fortress, I became aware of an ominous presence above me-- and by the gods, a giant eagle! My predecessor had warned me of such things, but I figured they were crazy. I figure the catapults they set up will do us well against such a beast, in the meantime, I have my eye on it.
I have decided to lay out the first of a series of walls protecting our fortress, my only hope is that the eagle will not draw near.
My wall plans are finished, and I hope that our mason(s?) will get right at it.
Part of the plans I drew outThe wall forms a complete circle around our main entrance, with two exits.
The main exit is show above, it will have two guard towers next to the gate, and the second exit will house only one guard tower, but is mostly to save my dwarves time if they need to get around the walls quicker.
After the first layer is down, I will put up a second layer and finish the guard towers. Even though the eagle could fly right over, I do feel safer now that the wall has started being put up.
Recently one of my miners alerted me to what minerals he had discovered during his exploratory mining operation that was set up by my predecessor, some good stuff had been found-- we struck morion, microline, and orthoclase since I took over, but that isn't what he came to tell me, no. He had discovered a cluster of amethyst!
Compared to some of our other discoveries(gold, for one) it might not be much, but it is another reason for me to get that treasury up as soon as possible.
It appears he has struck bone opal as well!
Work has begun on the wall, and I am quite pleased
This is another part of my plans but this time showing what is currently finishedOur mason has begun constructing the back of the wall, I guess he will work his way down.
An elven caravan arrived. If they have any useful goods I will trade with them, but I will not stand for any of their nature talk.
Where the elves arrived
My carpenter stumbled upon a kobold thief! He gave chase and killed the kobold off without any injuries.
The eagle scares me, gloomily flying over us, waiting for its chance to swoop down and strike down one of our dwarven brethren, so I am going to construct an additional catapult to help our current one knock it out of the sky.
We now have an engraver!(one of the peasants has become one)
The elves were a waste of time, they had nothing useful to trade at all, after I had gone through the trouble of getting the broker down there in time, we got nothing out of it.
The wall is making good progress, and I am setting up cage traps at the gates.
By the gods! Our carpenter has constructed a masterpiece cage!
A log of eventsThe gates needed cages for their cage traps, so my carpenter went off to construct them, a little while later he informed me that he had made a masterpiece, and sure enough, it was a cage of the finest quality I think I've ever seen. Hopefully it will spring upon one of our enemies, and bring further glory to CloisterCrush.
A vile kobold thief had the guts to waltz right into our garrison at the front of the fort-- needless to say, he was quickly mutilated by our seasoned wrestlers. Praise the militants!
A foolish kobold bumps into two wrestlers
No commentOur good queen Lolor has come to our fortress with a new wave of migrants, this is truly an honor for CloisterCrush to be blessed with her presence!
As such, our fortress is now a mountainhome and has been made the capital of dwarven lands.
We will immediately begin carving the royal rooms and creating the furniture our ruler will want to furnish them.
~more soon~
