I believe it would be intended for space travel, so aerodynamics aren't necessary. I still think it looks cool though.

It could be a ship that's designed to be sleek in space and harder to hit but unable to land on a planet without assistance from something that can.
Say a larger ship, or a space elevator, it doesn't have to land on the planet un-assisted
