Pressing F is exactly the same as changing render distance.  There's no difference.

Because the fog is where the game stops rendering objects. It's there to make a semi-realistic view limit, instead of the rendering just stopping somewhere.

i just had an idea. we should be able to use gifs as texture, that way we can have moving items. only problem would be on smp, where everyone has tons of items. it would be cool for ssp though. we could have burning torches and flopping fish. we could even have buckets of lava throw out embers.

You don't do that with a GIF. You do it with a sprite sheet of the item and then animate it by taking parts of the image (sprite sheet) and rendering only those. It can already be done and is done, just look at the fire texture.

yes i know how a gif works, i just wanted to be able to use the sprites to create an animation for a fish or something. there is only 1 slot for the fish though, for a gif you need more than 1 sprite.

this seed im using is loving awesome!
there are like massive massive caves. im finding natural obsidian all over the place.

and flowers grow in some of my caves lol. im talking near bottom of world, no sun light, no water; im finding them at random.
