I was only disappointed with the surprise because he used to add cool stuff to the game on Fridays but not tell anyone what the new stuff was, and now all of a sudden he's talking about a surprise on a Friday and it's just a special that people who already have the game can't take advantage of.

I mean I wasn't expecting 1.8 but it seemed like he was going to update the game with something.

Suppose you have a richardton of stuff on your favorite server, you've built a ton of awesome stuff and have many diamonds and such. If the map reset and wiped out all your things - EVERYTHING - would you quit the server?
