Author Topic: Minecraft Megathread; yeah its update 1.12 big whoop what about it  (Read 6796824 times)

Reg, I started reading your post thinking "Wait, excited for Minecraft Pocket Edition update?" Then I got to the last word and was like "... Wait, what is even going on? ._." You caught me off guard with that one... People being excited about mods... I'm sorry, but for me that seems wrong. I can't easily explain it. I suppose with Vanilla, everything that comes is universal, whereas mods are centralized to those who care to forget around with them. And I don't care for Thaumcraft at all. I saw Duncan mess with it, and... it didn't seem interesting to me.

I never really took notice in thaumcraft that much.

Someone should host voltz :o

i didn't take notice beyond making a wand and it collecting dust in my chest, lol.

i plan to become more involved with it in the future though, as soon as FTB actually loads my mods.

so that means you could host voltz?

pretty pls ;-;

i'm not touching tekkit anytime soon, only if it becomes updated before FTB.

but it's not tekkit

it's in the technic launcher, it's a separate mod pack but its not tekkit

Before any of you check the translation index for the next version of Minecraft, I'd like to make sure you understand why it's being done.

In the current snapshot, there are modular death messages, such as "fell off a ladder" and "died by a zombie," creating "Billy fell off a ladder and died by a zombie." However, the next version will simply have all the combinations manually listed out. This is due to the problem that other languages to not follow this language structure. Jeb originally wanted to make special accommodations for specialized grammar, but decided against it due to the wide variations it would have.

Point being, you'll see a huge list of stuff which, in English or any single language, would be better modularized, but would not work right for translations in a modular fashion. No pointing that out in anger, okay? :) https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-8647

"Maxwell7777 fell off a cliff, got hurt by a zombie, shot by ten arrows and suffocated to death."

I don't think it would track like that anyway. Like my example is supposed to mean that, while on a ladder, a zombie pushed you, causing you to fall to your death. A pusillanimous individual way to die, but that is covered I believe. In any case, they have the choice of either listing every combination or programming every special grammatical quirk for every supported language. Considering they are constantly adding new content, keeping up with specialized coding for arranging the text would be more difficult then giving each event it's own statements. The way translations are done is by public opinion - A translation is submitted, and votes determine if it is good. Of course this is subject to moderation, but the point is that hard coding the arrangement cripples this process since the developers must now directly answer to those specializing in the language.

Holy stuff I thought of a lot above.

Edit: Oh yeah, they actually made the game able to update the translations independently of the game version itself. Hard coding anything about the translation into the game would basically make this new functionality utterly useless. That's why it's easier to just give them free access to entire sentences and write them as would be best for their languages.
