Author Topic: Minecraft Megathread; yeah its update 1.12 big whoop what about it  (Read 6807267 times)

For some reason seeing pixelated guns in the way Minecraft renders its weapons it just horrible looking to me.

Fair enough.

Plus I think guns are too advanced for minecraft.
At this point, I can't really say I'm not defending guns, since I am actually defending guns

Well, if you're talking about time-wise, then I'm afraid that the 12th century has something to tell you.

And if you're talking about the way a gun works, mechanically, then

Single direction, explosive propulsion, compacted onto a iron tube and fuse on a slab of wood.

If Steve can understand TNT, he can understand early firearms

Advanced weaponry such as firearms do not fit in with the theme of vanilla Minecraft. The game is focused around simple machines like simple stone furnaces and pistons with a bit of magic thrown in in the form of other dimensions and enchanting and such. It takes on a sort of Lord of the Rings vibe, and guns would completely break that sort of "medieval fantasy" immersion.

Jukeboxes

Jukeboxes

So because Jukeboxes are in the game, firearms should be in the game as well? That is a very silly connection to make. A block that plays music does not disrupt the game feel.

Minecraft mobs are meant to be disposed of using the weapons allotted, adding guns would imbalance the game. There is literally no reason why you should need any sort of advanced weaponry to kill a creeper. Guns would imbalance the already stuffty combat system.

Crossbows
we need them
good lord all of the agreement in the world is not enough for this post

Pros
-More damage
-Better range
-Scope

Cons
-Load time is 50% slower than bows
-Requires bolts that need iron for the recipe instead of sticks

It's funny, I was actually just thinking about how you would possibly make a Crossbow cost enough to make that would justify something like greater damage or firing speed than the Bow (so people wouldn't just skip the Bow because of how quickly you could get the materials for essentially a direct upgrade, like how no one uses Leather Armor anymore and just goes straight to Iron) but having to use Iron for Bolts would really do a good job at that.

Okay so apparently Mojang can't balance

that's nice of you to say

A jukebox is not a simple machine and does not fit in a "medieval fantasy"

And actually, correcting myself, firearms can be traced back to the 10th century, so, right smack dab in the center of the Middle Ages

And for your viewing pleasure, a recreation of a 14th century handgonne, ie early firearm

Advanced my ass, that is quite literally an iron tube attached to a piece of wood and a lit fuse

You have access to funnel, which is essentially a wide-nozzled tube, planks of wood, fused gunpowder based explosives, and the ability to smelt metal into rough shapes

Early firearms are in no way too advanced for Minecraft

I think you are going a bit overboard

-long text-

What other mods are in it? Like is it still FTB With its industrial craft stuff?

I'm just trying to prove a point

Now you're just going into semantics. So much for "not defending guns or anything", christ.

What other mods are in it? Like is it still FTB With its industrial craft stuff?

It's almost exclusively DivineRPG. No IC2 or anything like that.

Honestly, I don't really see how that's "just going into semantics"

A lot of you said that firearms are too advanced for Minecraft

I disagreed and gave reasons why

Someone should host the yogscraft FTB pack.
