Author Topic: Minecraft Megathread; yeah its update 1.12 big whoop what about it  (Read 6809210 times)

I'm getting that you basically did not even read my post

Or even look at the moderately sized image of what is essentially a "firecracker on a stick" right in the middle of the post

Clearly this is going nowhere. You believe you are right, while we believe we are right, and in the end neither side will convince the other otherwise. Let's leave it at that.

Okay. Agree to disagree.

But can we all agree that Cargon's post made no sense at all

like seriously

tbh, it actually did make sense, though

And for your viewing pleasure, a recreation of a 14th century handgonne, ie early firearm

Advanced my ass, that is quite literally an iron tube attached to a piece of wood and a lit fuse

...

Early firearms are in no way too advanced for Minecraft

So you're saying that- hold on google images

This^
Makes total sense? The "guns" they had were little more than firecrackers on sticks, not muskets.

Hell, I didn't even mention muskets, I just said 'early firearms'

I downloaded a musket.

It's pretty great. :D

Edit: I would like to point out that despite Minecraft's medieval fantasy vibe; circuitry, pistons, TNT, rails, minecarts, clocks, etc; do not fit in.

i'm pretty seriously with mr. jelly on this one, i would love a musket.
i mean, you can actually collect gunpowder, metal, and wood, pretty much the essentials to a full fledged musket (although i don't know how one is constructed really, someone can either disprove or back me up on this).

And that whole jukebox argument? Please. That's no justification to bring in guns. The ability to play records is not immersion-breakingly advanced.
in comparison to muskets, it absolutely is.

the time difference between the musket and a record player is older than the united states.

yeah, minecraft is centered around the medieval era with fantasy stuff, but the reason things like that exist are really only for gameplay purposes.

i'm not saying it shouldn't have muskets and flintlocks and stuff; because it's entirely possible with iron and gunpowder around (and pewpew gunse are cool and stuff)

minecraft's limit due to innovation isn't that strict; stuff's added because it'd be convenient to have. one of the reasons i can see why guns wouldn't be added is because it'd be too powerful; even if it has a long reload time and such like the musket in balkon's weps mod, it'd still either put the bow to shame or be no different from the bow.

basically if you think of it logically, it'd be no more useful than fireworks.

I'm pretty sure Mojang can balance something that functions different to the bow

a musket and maybe a flintlock would be cool and fit minecraft's style
they should make it hard to get though

I'm pretty sure wired lights aren't Medieval, too.

But someone is gonna find a Google image and prove me wrong.

The gun itself would be easy to make, but the ammo should require 1 iron bar per round and one gunpowder per load.

and crossbows, but normal arrows shouldn't work and just bolts.

I think an iron bar could make two or three musket balls

The gun itself would be easy to make, but the ammo should require 1 iron bar per round and one gunpowder per load.

Or alternatively, one gold nugget is crafted/smelted into one musket ball, and each shot consumes one gunpowder and one musket ball.

I'm actually getting this from a post on the Minecraft Forums Go here for that post, but basically, it comes down to

  • Gold has similar properties to lead, and really has little value in the Minecraft universe
  • Gold is not as common as Iron, exists deeper underground, and takes at least iron tools to mine.
  • Gold is not as easy to farm for compared to iron. Compare Iron Golem + Zombie to Zombie Pigman
  • Both of the two above facts attribute to encouragement of the use of Bows early on
  • Gold has a smaller form, the nugget, which helps with the ammo per ingot balance, in which the player may get too much or too little ammunition per materials
  • More uses for Gold is good, can we agree on that?

gold is soft, that's why the gold tools in minecraft are crap so why would a gold musket ball be of use
