Author Topic: Ostinyo's Mapping Tutorial  (Read 100893 times)

some one quoted "NEVER: Use .jpeg files! Use .png! Players that connect to the server will not be able to download the .jpeg files!" i use JPEG and all the BL maps i know of uses it as well... this is my first map so im not as vetren but ppl who have viseted it sead they can see the textures just fine.

We're talking about being able to download the map picture, not the textures.

the only problem i know i have is that my map is only plable when in "Folder form" it works online as well
but i can not play it in zip as soon as i try packaging the files and adding to my BL maps... the map isent a choice in the maps -start game any more... is there a solution to this?

More than likely, you took the map folder and sent it to a zipped folder. This will create a folder within the map folder, which as my tutorial mentions, breaks maps.

You must highlight all of the contents within your map's folder and then send it to a zipped folder, in order for the zipped folder to not contain another folder.

Harumph. My friend, if you cannot figure that out, there is no hope for you. I'm very sorry to have to tell you this.

lol itl be figured out... just like the water problem... simple problems with simple solutions lol ill figure it out sooner or later lol Thanks for all Ur support throughout this project

If you want to figure it out quickly, try looking at how you download my maps ;)

Please note in your file you need to package it into Zip Archive not normal Zip.

Then go into Mission Editor Inspector and edit the size of the water, the wave magnitude, and many other aspects. Fiddle around with it and you'll get it. Another cool thing about water is that you can use your own textures for it in the Media, by simply using 256x256 textures like with the terrain. Check out this cool water I made in 5 minutes!

Do not add any folders into your zipped folder. If there are any folders contained in the zipped folder, the map will not function properly.
Also. Resizing Water will some time. "leave holes" this can sometimes be fixed by simply clicking the water. :3 unless the scale is over 8...

Or 7zip... Most people should know this.

People should already know this, and if not, figure it out as I did in 1 second of brain processing. This is a simple aspect of mapping such as relighting the terrain that I should not have to adress, but suppose I should.

hey
is there a way to make it so...
let me describe the problem...
all the interiors i make in Torque Constructor my Blockhead can simply Walk Threw them like there not there.

Seeking solution...

Ostinyo, Do we have to PUT anything is the Map folder?

I believe I completely covered that in the Packaging section.

No idea why that would be... you're exporting as Legacy DIF?

There are three possible problems I can think of.

1. When you were making your interior, you used CSG. When it breaks your object into pieces it leaves atleast one of those pieces overlapping with another piece.  Torque can't handle this so it screams at you in german and doesnt let the objects collide.

2. You have two objects colliding in some other way.

3. You didnt export correctly.  To export correctly, save the file, close torque, reopen torque, load the file, and without changing the file beforehand export as a legacy dif.

If you can't fix the file you're working on, try exporting a simple cube.

Haha I remember when it's done that to me... And I keep forgetting about number 3... You positive that is true? Got to try it out.

Yes I'm positive.  Until I started doing that, it rarely exported correctly.

Ok thanks, that may fix some of my collision problems :)
