rod of discord is actually reeally useful for final boss. You can dodge the eye beam  deathray that does like 200 damage really easily by just teleporting behind it.

it took me and the guys about an hour to kill the moon lord.

we ended up having to divert the true eyes of chtulhu from the moon lord so it was easier for us to kill him. it wasn't easy lol

If you can keep the eyes all at low health before popping them out of their sockets and seek shelter under a solid roof from the beam, the whole process will go by much smoother.

The Moon Lord never despawns, it will hunt you down.
Speaking of Rod of Discord, I got that from killing 10-30 Chaos Elementals.
