Author Topic: Need help transferring important data to new PC.  (Read 6826 times)

Ah, Good. The only way I can play Garry's Mod on this one is closing absolutely everything. And even then, my computer will simply shut off from the load.
You'd be able to play Garry's Mod, spawn 1000s of props, and then possibly minimize and go watch a youtube video while playing Minecraft as well.

That should be ample for a 460 so long as it's a reliable brand or 80+ gold, silver or bronze.
I'm running a faster 5850 on a 550w with no problem, the recommended was 500, but I went one over.

For one, the GTX 460 requires one or two (I have no idea, I think it does not only depent on the chipset, but also on the manufacturer?) 6-pin connectors from the PSU, which I don't believe the current PSU in my system has, and:

Translation:

"Hello, is the PSU compatible with Palit Sonic GTX 460, seeing that it needs a 6-pin connector on the PSU?"

"The PSU is too weak to sustain this videocard, you'd need another PSU. Have a nice day!"

(That is a 1+2 sentences conversation I had with one of the workers that work at the online shop I bought the PC from, but he does not really know I already ordered it, actually.)

Don't trust foreigners :P

If it's a 500W PSU it does not mean it has a 6-pin connector. I loving seen DDR3 motherboards with no PCI-e slots for video cards.

Edit:

Above: Or maybe not, but still.

I'm also getting a computer. I ordered a custom, everything is fine until I realized my power supply is wrong. Now I will get shipped an GTX 460 with a power supply with no capability to comprehend such need. The PC will be in warranty too, so I won't be able to open the case and put another supply on. (I got a prebuilt PC and asked the people there to add that video card, however, they didn't tell me if they are compatible or not, them loving greedy bastards.).

The specs would've been:

Intel i5 2.8 GHz Quad-Core (11.2 GHz total)
Palit NVIDIA GeForce GTX460 Sonic 1gb DDR5
2 terrabytes hard drive (Which I have no idea what I will use on)
4 GB DDR3

forget my life.
DON'T
BUY
WARRANTIES.

IF YOU HAVE COMPUTER INTELLIGENCE, YOU CAN FIX IT YOURSELF!

...
Oh, right.  Your dad is dumb, I forgot.

Get a MOLEX to 6-pin connector. Most GPUs will come with them anyway, and 99% of PSUs will have at least 2 MOLEX connectors.

Warranty.  :cookieMonster:

Well they should have it all connected, if they don't, it's their fault. You can't use goods that are half done and not finished especially if you can't finish them yourself.

Forget about all. I just got a call from dad, he said that it is indeed not compatible, so they will change the PSU. Unfortunately that means I will no longer get the PC today, but after ~1 week. (Which isn't really bad seeing this weekend & tommorrow I am going to the mountain).

Eitherway, all solved, I don't really know what are the specs of the new PSU however.

I ordered it. The case is coming in three days for $5 shipping, and the rest is coming in two days for free shipping. Ethan, ready up.

Turns out, they have warehouse in NJ. Came across the border, and is already on the truck to my house. They'll make it here around 4-5 hours.

It came. The side of the box looked smashed and repaired with tape, but I didn't imagine the front of the damn case would be smashed in like this. And then I discover the whole font part of the case is impossible to open. The part for pissing in disc drives and stuff. Help? How do I get these inside parts off? The front might be salvageable if I can push them back out, but I can't get to them.

I need help with this NOW. I can't even get the disc drive slots open. The ones punched in bad. There's some extra metal grate. I'm scared this stuff is actually broken, but I can't even get in to check because this case is terrible. Bisjac can't even help, and he just went out.

I don't want to actually break anything and then they don't take this stuff back. But I can't figure out how to get this open to check. It's pissing me off, I have no idea what to do.

uh. If I were you I would send that back.

I don't really get what you're saying. Could you unscrew anything, or is there no place to unscrew it?

Edit: Could you maybe post a picture of the case? That might help a bit.

There is like front panels, and behind it are pieces of metal. I see no screws. It's like the metal is jammed in there and not meant to be taken out. It really, REALLY freaks me out that the only way I could check to be sure that is broken and not just jammed in an awkward way would be to jerk that stuff out so I can try pushing the front panels outward and see. I read reviews on Newegg, and it seems like those panels have to be pulled out forcefully SOMEHOW.
