Craft please?
Sure, I'll give you the craft later when I change computers. I followed the Kerbal wiki's guide though, so it's not my original creation. Still, got me there after a while. With some fuel to spare too.

EDIT: Here. Craft that will get you to Laythe. (Not back)

Change the landing gear on the lander to the longer ones!
Also, IIRC, the booster rocket thrusters are bound to 0 and 9 for the first stage, and for the smaller nuclear stage it's 8 and 7. Follow this guide: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:LF_Laythe
It's the same rocket, with SLIGHT modifications. Might take a few tries.

Do they have plans to add unmanned craft to this game? Say, putting a probe on a distant planet and not worrying about having to get it back to Kerbin?

There's already probe modules you can use instead of the command pods.
