Author Topic: Is Evolution a Scientific Law, Theory, or both?  (Read 7407 times)

Evolution will always be a theory because no matter how much proof you get, it will never be enough.

Theory =/= unproven, possible explanation. Gravity is a theory. So is the orbit of the planets. So we can't make it a scientific law.

Quote
The word theory in the theory of evolution does not imply mainstream scientific doubt regarding its validity; the concepts of theory and hypothesis have specific meanings in a scientific context. While theory in colloquial usage may denote a hunch or conjecture, a scientific theory is a set of principles that explains observable phenomena in natural terms.[172][173] "Scientific fact and theory are not categorically separable",[174] and evolution is a theory in the same sense as germ theory or the theory of gravitation.[175]

Evolution is true, we do adapt and improve over long periods of time, but no, we didn't come from monkeys.

My two cents.

The year I had biology in higschool we did a section on evolution. The teacher started by prefacing it with i'm not saying it's the truth but its what has to be taught. I was so loving mad

Yeah its a theory, but  a theory isn't what you think

Gravity is  a theory
Why were you mad? If they didn't have a negative tone about it I would've been fine, the teacher would be saying "believe what you want, mmk, but you should know about this stuff right here"

You can see the results of evolution right before your eyes. Have you seen how big girls asses and tits are getting over the years? Like 12 year olds are rocking DDs these days because men love big asses and big tits so they are getting progressively bigger. Man evolution is like the best.

that isnt evolution. there are growth hormones in alot of the fast food we eat today because the animals are given said growth hormones so they produce more meat. we get some of the residual growth hormones when we eat those foods, and so as a result people have been getting taller, and their body parts have been getting larger, some ways good, someways bad.

also lol at people thinking evolution is a law. you cant have theories turn into laws. laws cant become theories either. i think its been said already in this thread several times. semi-basic science 101.

you kids have some studying to do

Lol where the hell did you get this bullstuff. Men like big titties and big asses so women with big titties and big asses tend to mate more than others passing on their big titties and big asses genes to their daughters who get bigger titties and bigger asses and so on.

Don't call somebody 6 years older than you a 'kid'.

that can't be true.  i had thought about this before too, i felt like people in general would have become better looking throughout centuries because people like to reproduce with attractive people, but it seems that's not the case.

Well being attractive is a matter of preference while having big titties and big asses shows the ability to bear and care for children. Although not everyone likes big tits and big asses a large majority do for that reason, while what you consider attractive is usually abnormal compared to everyone else so you'll never see a world full of people attractive to you. Not to mention wealth is considered attractive by a lot of people and that isn't a genetic trait.

Tits and asses man.

Tits and asses man.

TITS AND ASSES BIGGER AND STRONGER UNTIL THEY RULE THE WORLD. Also I'm glad someone finally realized I was purposely saying tits and asses repeatedly without variation.

Keep on trying!
And then we grow s'more!

Earlier on Seventh Sandwich posted a link describing the definition of "law" and "theory." Apparently, despite how incorrect it sounds, theories are stronger then laws when it comes to explanations. We can see and reproduce micro-evolution and speciation, and also have dozens of other proofs that back up evolutionary change, but it would be a law if the only correct data we had was the reproducing. Theories can't become laws, but laws can be put into theories.

Also, No, I was not trying to start a religion argument.
This isn't an argument about religion, it's about theories of how species came to be. You're getting a bit off-topic.
It eventually came to that because a believer started preaching the standard religious ignorance and stupidity because of his faith, which pissed off some of our more intelligent users. A separate theory being presented in the thread could have started an intelligent debate if the proposer didn't deliberately ignore all evidence and then ragequit because he thought accepting a theory would "hurt" his faith.
