Author Topic: Today's Mainstream Music v. Classic Music  (Read 13037 times)

its the same thing. When my class decides to blast justin bieber over the room's loudspeakers, i can't simply "not listen". I have to sit through stuff like that, and yes, it does cause me pain. Today's music is terrible, especially our pop genre. I feel like i'm losing brain cells every time I hear a katy perry song in the mall or in the car or on TV.
I don't like Justin Bieber either, but I respect that people like him.
Maybe you should do the same.

What's that supposed to mean. I never said I don't respect people who listen to him.

above & beyond
porter robinson
daft punk
swedish house mafia
madeon
pegboard nerds

the list goes on and on
>Madeon was too, hard rock for me. I didn't really like the few songs I listened to by them.
>Above and Beyond, again, too hard rock and too many effects. It all songs computerized, I don't know why.
>Daft Punk was too computerish, the few songs I heard sounded all the same to me.
>Swedish House Mafia, again, you can tell that most of it was done by computers. I need to be able to hear the guitarist, hear the drummer and hear the bass. All I hear is beats and weird sounds.
>Pegboard Nerds, same thing as most of the above stuff.
>Same with Porter Robinson.

I want to be able to hear people playing instruments. I don't like things that are done by machines. They all sounded the same to me. I need something that sticks out, like the singer has a unique voice, or there is a good guitar player or you notice the drums throughout the song.

Then you're not one of the stupid ones. I wasnt exactly talking about everyone who likes old music is stupid, I like some older songs. I was talking about the people who only listen to classic music, and never even bother listening to todays generation or music.

I like maybe five modern songs, it's just my taste. It's as much dwelling on the past as listening to modern music is refusal to study history.

not sure if deaf or just likes nickelback
joking lol
they're loving gay roostersuckers

Blok, the talent in electronic music is not in the playing of instruments, it is in composition and orchestration of entire songs and creating your own instruments.

Ok, then I don't like the new instruments being made.

After listening to the bands recommended in this post, I turned my music back on and it was like a big relief.

Pop is always bad!
Have you guys ever heard modern hardcore? It's loving great. Indie, shoegaze, Alternative, hell even some of those fruity electronica songs are doing great right now

that's how a lot of non-edm is for me

when i listen to songs with real instruments they're never very memorable imo

sounds horrible to say but that's just me

Are there any bands that actually have a guitarist, a bassist, a lead singer, and a drummer that doesn't sound like crap and isn't hard rock or metal?

owl city is one guy but you might like him if you haven't heard of him already

the black keys and foo fighters
I liked the couple songs I listened to of The Black Keys. They sound familiar, I think they might have a song in NHL12.
Foo Fighters, I didn't really like the singer's voice and it seemed too much like hard rock, but they were still pretty good.

Anything else?

In my honest opinion today's music is just painful to listen to and mostly has terrible lyrics. It's just a whole bunch of artists doing songs using the same nonsensical beats and almost completely similar lyrics. I just dislike modern music.

Didn't like Owl City.
