I also used to have a dedicated with Aperture Host.

Their support is great, I received replies even at 3AM. They are quick to fix any problems. If you don't want a budget server you will need to ask them directly to make an order for you. Server also ran great.

Costs about 175% of what I would be paying with dotblock?
How is it better?

NFOServers uses really great processors  and anything that has 2 cores or above uses 50% cache memory which is super fast. The CPUs are also dedicated to you, so you don't share them with anyone else, same with RAM.

You can also downgrade, or upgrade the server as you wish.

Let me put it this way: I was able to run a 32 player TF2 server on their lowest plan (single core, 1GB ram) AND a website with CPU and RAM to spare. Their servers are highly optimized, so you get what you pay for.

websites are not exactly heavy loads

the TF2 server might be an adequate benchmark though

I've had good experience with HoneLive, they're the same service RTB hosting uses and their prices are very affordable. I don't know what's going on with that server4you pricing stuff, the rack space alone costs more than $50 a month, let alone the hardware and internet costs, so something's fishy with that.

Also,
Arch isn't there, freebsd, slackware, and something called openSUSE are there though.
And that's about it for the low cost options.

Also, Debian says it comes with over 29000 packages, is that what you meant with 'less bogged down with stuff'?
I believe that means its package manager contains 29k packages, not that 29k packages come preinstalled. Ubuntu is essentially Debian trying to be usable by people who aren't computer aficionados, so it comes with so much superfluous stuff preinstalled that is supposed to make running it easier, but in reality it's useless and slows down your system. The only reason it's gotten so many votes is because it's the most well known Linux, so people are voting for the one they've heard of not the one that's best. I voted for Debian, and I want to make it clear that my vote was out of experience and knowledge not a popularity vote.

You're asking beyond what I know. Search the web.
Uh, I just said I did.

TF2 uses about the same as blockland and gmod (and any source game, I presume)
And about half of terraria.
And about a third of minecraft.

That's what I was thinking, I'll have to research that.

Trying to instal debian on my computer now to see what it's like / what will run on it.

If that's true, then any host listed suits you.

I should note; since Ubuntu is based on Debian nearly all programs are cross-compatible. The optimizations are a little different though, so download the Debian version of things like Wine when they're available.

HoneLive don't even allow game servers.

They don't seem to have a problem with RTB hosting.

?

Gosh, if that were true, I'd happily report RTB.
reporting for the banter hahaha

They don't seem to have a problem with RTB hosting.

If you look at their terms game servers are considered as "abusive".

Can't host game servers, torrents, irc servers, and probably a few other things you cut off?
Wow, what's that leave, a website? I could get web hosting for a tiny fraction of the price without buying a server.

No IRC servers? What the hell that's just text being sent it's most likely even less information then a loving website.

Most hosting companies actually forbid them.
I'm not exactly sure why, but I guess because there's so many of them already and with all the channels they could potentially end up using a ton of traffic and cpu.
