Its a marketing ploy, and its generally slower but only by 1% or 2%.
X99 is the only platform at the moment that supports quad channel memory.
The first link is for X79 and the second link is for P55, neither of which support quad channel memory.

Sticks of memory ≠ Memory channels

Was talking about quad channel kits, not really if it would support quad channel.

My computer is making a loud high pitched whine when it's turned off (i can hear the whine through most parts of my house)

I feel like my psu is going to die soon

The psu is a HEC 300LR-TE

so...
add two more 4GB sticks, or replace what I have with two 8GB sticks?

Replace what you have with two 8GB sticks

Just add 2 more 4gb, you are saving $40 that way and the difference between 4x4 and 2x8 is negligible at best.

His motherboard is dual channel.

His motherboard is dual channel.

So is mine? I have ran into exactly 0 issues with having 4x4 memory in my computer.
Plus why the hell would there be 4 slots if you are restricted to only using 2 effectively?

Well, for one thing, your experience isn't all encompassing. Second thing, he would be better off just buying 2x8. RAM is cheap as forget anyways, why not go the simplest route?

Apparently I grabbed the quote before your edit.

There's 4 slots because you can run with 4 sticks. They will probably work.

what's so terrible about 4 ram sticks? cuz my board is dual channel and i run 4x4

The difference would most likely be unnoticeable for all intents and purposes. Actually cant even find 1 purpose where it would matter much other than ramdisking, but thats so insanely fast it doesnt matter anyway.

I'm looking for a cheap 960 4gb graphics card can anyone help me out? I found one listed below but I'm waiting for black friday deals. At best buy they are selling a 960 2gb model for 219 but the card in the link is a 4gb version for 212 lol.
