If you wanted more notes than that, I have a suggestion:
< and > both do not create a note themselves, but modulate the rest of the notes.
the remaining keys can be used in 4 different states ( [  ], [< ], [ >], [<>] ) to create a twelve note scale

As long as we're on the subject of musical instrument control schemes...

The plan I had for that aformentioned NES-style project was that using the lute item would disable your usual controls and effectively turn your computer keyboard into a simplified naturals-only musical keyboard.  Z, X, C, V, B, N, and M would play the lower octave while A, S, D, F, G, H, J, K, L play the upper octave.

I'd totally approve other than that being limiting for controllers. My scheme would be confusing initially, but I think it would work well enough with practice, and it would allow for a decent range.

Thanks for posting the sounds for the ocarina, I implemented them the other night and they sound really good.

It's a lot of fun to play around with in game, I'd love to add the ability to use a full octave but I'm really not sure how I'd fit that on a controller. Even in it's current form though it's quite fun to play ocarina of time songs.

I've been starting to gear up for the upcoming kickstarter so things are a bit slower in terms of fancy gifs to show, but progress is being made.

But I've been messing around more with the snake boss, he's going to be a bit similar to the snake boss in zelda and 3d dot game heroes.

Also... and I'm not kidding when I say this. I'm going to be doing another talk, this time in Boston.

Boston playcrafting to be precise, it's going to be a quick 7 minute talk on a few things I learned working on The Forgettable Dungeon.

So yeah, apparently this is just going to be a thing now where I go around random places talking.

Controllers generally have no ghosting issues, right? I think my control scheme would work.

Also, my last class on Wednesdays gets out at 4:00, but it would take me 2:57 to get there from Troy NY even if I could get a ride :(
Hope all goes well.

More ideas for things on ice walls:

Chains, broken furniture, crystal patches/bushes, little frozen waterfalls

Controllers generally have no ghosting issues, right? I think my control scheme would work.

If ever this becomes a thing, you NEED to teach me the John Cena theme tune.

What do you mean by ghosting issues on controllers? Ghosting is related to the networking.

With the current control scheme I want to keep the ability to replicate classic OOT songs with ease, and also prevent it from being too complicated.

Sorry for lack of progress as of late I've been working on kickstarter, website, and trailer things.

Here's a preview of the site so far, the style is far from done but I just wanted to make sure it ran on peoples computers.

It should look like this:

It should also dynamically scale depending on how big your monitor is and if you're on mobile.

I got a controller working on my laptop, I'm ready for a test whenever that happens

the simultaneous button press type of ghosting, not the network thing

the simultaneous button press type of ghosting, not the network thing
this
if there aren't any issues, then my layout should work fine

Also, site looks great!

the simultaneous button press type of ghosting, not the network thing

Ah ok, yeah as far as I know you can do a stuff ton of button presses at once.

Anyway, I have "finished" the website, or at least gotten it to a state where it works so it's live, check it out.

I'm happy I was able to get that video section working correctly as it is much more optimized than gifs, tell me if you guys have any problems.

Also I made this gif to show off the "voxel destruction",

Expect a lot of tongue in cheek things like this in the trailer.

for webms, the mimetype is video/webm
also, imgur provides actual .mp4 files (higher filesize but more compatibility)

not really a big deal, it just bugs me a bit
