I'm not too versed in famitracker or 8-bit sounds in general but I feel like it could use that one synth er square er WHATEVER that sounds bubbly.
I think you mean the arpeggios, and those I cannot do correctly at all

arpeggios are easy, it just changes the pitch of the note as it's played
it works better with repeat (right click) depending on what kind of instrument

for instance, a short noise instrument (say, volume 15 11 8 6 4 3 2 1 0) with arpeggio -4 -2 -1 0

i mean I don't really know how to explain it properly but it's like
if you have an instrument with arpeggio -4 -2 0 then every time you play the instrument it would slide up to the note you actually put
and 4 2 0 would slide down, etc
combined with looping the arpeggio you can get some weird-sounding instruments

as for the actual songs themselves, not sure if I really like the way the triangle goes waaaay up at the end but it's fine otherwise I guess

-music-

Not too bad, I guess.  The "building on a basic rhythm as you progress" is an interesting idea, but it's really short.  Maybe there's a reason for that, but it's hard to judge quality when there isn't much to go on.

Like Char said, the triangle wave pitch slide is pretty weird.

If you want to do arpeggios, they're really easy.  Just put a zero in the track's effect field, followed by the values of the other notes in the chord.  For a major chord, use 4 and 7.  This effect applied to a C note, for example, will play a C major chord.  Try it!

So I fiddled around with Famitracker for a bit and redid everything. 1 and 2 didn't need to be changed, but the triangle in 3 and the second square in 4 required a change.

Also, if you want to hear the entire song put together, I made this handy mp3.
Now enough derailing I am going to start making my game.

I'm using Game Maker 8.1 to make a pixelated (lol indie pixel games) shooter on a space-station.

Any tips for the long-run?

Wait hold on a minute, pull it up, stop.
You know what you wanna do with that right?
You wanna put a bangin' donk on it.

So the game I'm making is based in the sky with a bunch of blocks floating. The main character (let's name him X because my brain is fried) hops on one block at a time, and has to land on all of the colored blocks to unlock the finish. This is not as easy as it sounds, however, as landing on the colored blocks can cause the world to change multiple times (the music also changes as well, starting from Stage 0 then going to Stage 1, Stage 2, and then Stage 3.) The game is turn based, and a turn passes when X moves. Turns affect how enemies move, and how traps activate.

Here's some concept art of level 1:

Stage 1 adds more blocks to the map.
Stage 2 adds traps to the map.
Stage 3 adds moving enemies (the red slime for example) into the map.

why not spend your time making something enjoyable/original? :panda:

im new to game making. i usually just do pixel art alone so i thought i would start with something simple.
im actually working on something else in UDK though, I've been playing with that for a while now.

first releasable (playable) version is here
all sprites except for the burrito are placeholders.

besides the obvious (make it infinite, make it so the player chooses when to start, randomize it), the camera is also kinda disorienting
i like the physics tho
feels nice

I kind of want to make something like Realm of the Mad God, and I wanted to make it before I just stop completely and forget about it. Game Maker and Construct aren't really my thing, and I have no idea where to start in terms of programs / language.

codeacademy is a good place
