Author Topic: supreme court struck down affirmative action 6-2  (Read 34354 times)

I think my point was that America could concentrate on its majority.
America is by and large a white country, and just like say, Israel concentrates on its Jewish population, or china doesn't give non-Chinese preference, I think America shouldn't be going out of its way to change its demographic and mix cultures.
I agree.

EDIT: stuff, pagelossed my own list of sources.

maybe discriminated is the wrong term. harassed seems more fitting.

not like you'd know anyway. you're a man.

Women aren't a minority anyway.
Because neither Israel nor China had Jim Crow laws or hundreds of years of slavery or intense discrimination or needed a Civil Rights era.

I really don't need to though. "my words" would just be a repitition of the articles I posted
Not really, since it's infinitely easier to regurgitate something that someone else wrote than to formulate your own argument. I just want to hear you define affirmative action in your own words.

lets say two kids apply to X college
one kid has a 3.0 GPA and the second has a 3.5 GPA
the first kid gets accepted, why? because he's a minority
yeah that just sounds really stupid
acceptance into college should be based on grades, not race.
no matter what color skin you are you should be judged just like everyone else.

that's the most tribal thing I've seen in this thread lol

why does it matter how easy it is?

My point is that saying "it'd just be a repeat of the articles I've posted" is kind of an excuse not to actually use your own words. Who cares if someone else has already described it in an article or whatever, I want to see you define it in your own words. Why are you so reluctant to do this?

Aaaand you ignored all the sources with the correct definition.

Also, if white people are the majority, and other races are the minority, and you can only pick one (which is by no means what's happening: colleges can easily give equal chances), it makes more sense to go with 78% of the population than 22%. Again, that's not a realistic situation, as colleges aren't forced to pick one.

Because neither Israel nor China had Jim Crow laws or hundreds of years of slavery or intense discrimination or needed a Civil Rights era.
Many cultures had slavery and terrible wars and injustice, you're just ignorant.
The reason whites get blamed for it all was simply because we happened to be the most successful race, so the same course of action every other culture took is multiplied by a bunch.

that's the most tribal thing I've seen in this thread
Should countries like China and Japan be encouraging whites to move in by giving preference to them over Asians?
Does that sound right at all?

repealing affirmative action makes it so you cant choose one race over another
how is this a bad thing

Night Fox seems to realize that discrimination is bad but has the wrong definition of affirmative action. I have given 4 completely unbiased sources (encyclopedias, dictionaries, and 5 if you include Wikipedia) with the correct definition.

haha no but i understand that women face harassment a little bit more than others

White Americans don't have to hate black people to still think giving someone an unfair advantage based on race is a bad thing.
How does night expect racial tensions to ever go away unless we stop laws that lable black people a lesser people.

I guess night prefers the division xd

because you're looking up a global definition of "affirmative action," not the way the policy is used in the united states

affirmative action here doesn't prefer minorities. it doesn't single the majority and give them less of an opportunity. it makes colleges consider all applicants equally, regardless of race or gender or income. this does NOT mean that a person in the minority who failed every class in high school has the same chance as a white person who had nearly perfect grades. it means that a white person with good grades and a poc with good grades are considered equally

when a college prefers the applications of a minority over those of a white person, that is not what affirmative action means for us. banning affirmative action will not fix that

because it's a waste of time and I'm doing other things
yet you still continue to post as if its not

that's your whole argument?
