What exactly is the appeal in Pokemon?

Because from my experience it's just a luck based roleplaying game. Give me some arguments to make me hate it a little less.

you get to keep large monsters in very small balls

Collecting fun little monstery things and having them fight other fun little monstery thing.
I don't understand where the "luck" part you're talking about even comes from.

critical hits i think.

its about people with small balls capturing animals and forcing them to fight for a pointless cause. The cause is usually selfish and pointless. Most Pokemon are slaves with little purpose, some are "godlike", and one or two are just experiments. In the end, the pokemon always lose. Then again, this is only based on the little information i've absorbed from a couple pokemon players I know.

I've played it a lot as a younger kid. From my experience, I can say it's quite fun at first in the same way Skyrim is, but after years of playing different pokemon games, I've started to realize how truly empty and meaningless the games are, because they just don't have much of a replay value for me.

I like to play games where the progress I make feels meaningful and lasts. That's why I like games like Starmade, Blockland and Minecraft. Because I can load up old saves that I have made 5 years ago, and still play with them.

if you're gonna enjoy pokemon you gotta enjoy something about it
like, for me, when it comes to games, I'm really into completion. like, as long as I have something to get up to 100%, I can keep playing for a moderately long time, even if otherwise it would be sorta boring
there are exceptions to that. like Saints Row 3. that game is terrible
but with pokemon, because of the completionist stuff, my thing is filling the pokedex
some people are just really competitive, and they like competitive battles in pokemon

not everyone can find something to like about it. like, I hate the combat, I wish I could just skip it all
but oh well

I totally agree about the combat Night Fox. When I play my copy of Pokemon Emerald on my computer, I like to just fastforward the entire battles because the fighting sequences just get to feeling so boringly long when you've played the game for many years.

i dunno man the only reason i have x is because it was free when you bought a 3ds xl and a game

practically the only mechanics in the game that are chance-oriented are:

successfully catching a pokemon
the slot machines in the Game Corners (the casinos)
the "run away" button for battles
the pokemon you will encounter when in tall grass
the underground wi-fi tunnels' mining minigames (diamond, pearl and platinum versions only I think)
the poffin/pokeblock machines when played with NPCs
the moves enemy NPCs will use in pokemon battles
the moves opponent pokemon will use in pokemon contests
the pokemon that spawn in a specific floor on dungeons (Mystery Dungeon games only)
the items at the lizard-carpet shops in dungeons and in Pokemon Square (Mystery Dungeon games only)
the chosen widescale movements of off-screen pokemon in dungeons (Mystery Dungeon games only)
the quests you can get from bulletin boards in pokemon square (Mystery Dungeon games only)
the terrain generation of dungeons (Mystery Dungeon games only)

i dunno, some of the pokemon i have seen are creepy as Howard Wallowitz. That one pokemon that looked like a clown/housemaid was particularly scary

esp poison types, and several psychics. except the gothiella/jynx line, forget those abominations.

I can say it's quite fun at first in the same way Skyrim is
I don't like Skyrim either.

That's a lot of luck based things. How about telling me where the game isn't luck based?
