Hold on, the point of sending the warfleet through first was to wipe out enemy warships.  Where the heck were these things hiding?
Remember the ships where everyone his below decks?  Those ships were protecting a settlement.  They were keeping the Avalonian ships from going directly there.

Return fire *rollsnaredrums* and forget about taking enemy ships, just roast 'em.  Ram them if we have to.  Get the landing party to shore to take out them ranged enemy troops - most are mounted cavalry anyway and worst comes to worst they're no worse off a horse than on one.  Send two of the fastest ships back to let the warfleet and the Council know what's happening with the landing party.
The war fleet hits hard, and after a long battle, the enemy war fleet is defeated, but at the cost of 48% of the fleet.  The landing party arrives, but takes considerable damage approaching.  Upon arriving, the ships are burned down due to flaming arrows, ensuring that return will not be possible, and leaving less space for more landing parties.  However, the archers on land are quickly wiped out.  A small army of 270 land soldiers approach.

No mercy is to be shown to these soldiers.  Later on in the campaign, perhaps, but no mercy now.

That still doesn't explain how they snuck back abovedeck and outflanked my ships without any Avalonian sailors noticing or doing anything about it.  Is this a separate enemy fleet that got around my ships?  If that other fleet was protecting a settlement, wouldn't those have to come from a clear field of view giving my ships time to maneuver accordingly?

Time to rethink my strategy.

With the (closest?) enemy fleet annihilated, it seems apparent that naval operations in the area can commence.  Have the fleet return to rendezvous with the next landing party (two conjoined following the failure of the previous one), which will land even farther from where the land campaign is supposed to start, in some desolate, flat, fairly uninhabited place close enough to where the troops need to be.  Hire some Ormican/Espulian vessels to help move the army.  Portable fortifications (lightish wooden angled and braced walls, nothing fancy) are built to provide cover for future landings (the lack of which I guess is probably why my peeps died).

Further naval engagements will simply start out with fire arrows/slings.  Use 'em against ships, against settlements, against fortifications.  Right now it's time for shock and awe and scorched earth.

Also, ships are sent with timbers and sailcloth to repair the warfleet and other ships.

Arrow indicates course of Avalonian landing vessels, and the little gold and red spot is where they'd have landed - well outside the warzone and well away from the warfleet which was in the area of conflict if the battle was over protecting a settlement.  They seriously should not have been right there waiting for the landing party.  I post this because I get the impression that you misunderstood the scale of the geography of the invasion - if not just ignore all that.

I thought it was northward.  Judging by the size of that you can expect some larger land armies.

Either way the navy is down and you currently have 270 against your landing party.  30 each of Espulian and Ormican vessels arrive.  A note is sent to Avalonia, saying that something better be in it for them if this invasion is successful.

Apologies if I wasn't specific enough when I said peninsula.  I meant the bit that looks like it turns into an island on the rotating globe, not the entire thing (as if Avalonia could take all of that).

Successful or not we intend to pay them.  That's what hire means, and it's the course of honor.

Regarding larger land armies, I knew I was in for a rough one when I started this.

I thought the landing party was already torn apart, but okay.  Oh, their archers.  Nevermind about relocating landing site.

Avalonian archers fill their quivers, mount their horses and prepare to cover the landing of more Avalonian troops on the foreign vessels ferrying them.  Mounted swordsmen prepare to cover the Avalonian archers.  While there's still time, the men whose horses didn't survive the landing attempt to clear some of the wreckage near where the Avalonian landing party has mustered to allow reinforcements to land.  I don't expect that they'll be super successful, but they can do some good.

The commander of the landing party says a few words, which I will not put in German because that's just more trouble than it's worth:
"Men, Honorable Soldiers of Avalonia.  The honor of our nation, of our land, of our entire people has been insulted by these dogs before us.  Our fellow Germanic peoples have brought our brothers in great force.  Our own ships will bring more.  To die here today in order that the Fatherland may rid the world of the curs ahead is a fate more honorable than any deserve.  But to live through this and cut down a thousand curs in the land ahead is a greater honor still.  Let us fight this day in a way worthy of song a thousand years from now; for glory, for honor, for the Fatherland!"

The Avalonian horsemen will break into three groups.  The smallest will guard those attempting to clear space for another landing.  The other two of around equal force will outflank the enemy on both sides and make them feel our arrows.  Effort will be made to take out any enemy horses first, leaving the grounded infantry more vulnerable and unable to outrun or outmaneuver the Avalonians.

Auria is now building outposts for protecting the borders with the new military force they have.

The road to Caprica is finished, Merchants celebrate and traders form caravans to begin trading.

Varansk improves their defences. Our goal is to become the nigh-impenetrable trade capital of the world.

Atenisia continues its joint-research with Albiton chemists.

Using the ash from a local dormant volcano, and limestone, and stuff, Ateni civil engineers has discovered a cement-like, water-proof substance that dries quickly and is perfect for a possible sewer system in the main city, sidewalks, and other STUFF.

M8 I was doing that and making Aqueducts already.  M8.

Shoot I forgot to mention.  Erinamese Explorers reach Lotavik, Caprica, and Seneca.

Random Events Batch No. 5
Would have wanted to use the new NPCs in this round, but time is wearing thin.

Lotavik:
Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Erinaum:
General Lieucien III is stabbed during the night by an unknown assassin.  The government blames anti-Erinamese rebels for disgracing the line of illustrious generals that lead the nation.  Captain Lieucien IV is appointed General in his place.

Atenisia:
Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Avalonia:
The incoming armies appear to be very formidable.  Reports come in that the land army is 15,000 strong, and that their allies are coming to their aid.

Galaumia:
Rain following a dry spell in mountainous regions causes serious mudslides.  814 die and 1,396 are displaced.

Aspidis:
Expansion to the west has proven successful.  Many nations in these lands swear allegiance to Aspidis.

Caprica:
Trade with Romicia grows to all new heights.  Riches and great works flow throughout the country like rich honey in s beehive.

Varansk:
A series of bad storms out at sea has resulted in the loss of over 2,101 people, whether military, civilian, or those emigrating.

Seneca:
Inactive.  No effect.

Calzone:
Neighboring kingdoms to the west have grown fond of Calzone and wish to trade with you.

Hlaohamarr:
A series of good harvests and a good economy results in the increase of about 5,498 people.

Plexia:
Neighboring kingdoms begin to jest and make fun of Plexia for being puny.

Auria:
Hearing of good grazing lands, more nomads enter.  Some of the nomadic families that have been in Auria the longest are asking for citizenship, and for requests to have land shares.

Espovon:
Espovon's military, because of inaction, loses a generation of good soldiers to be replaced with slightly less competent ones.

Also the results are:

Lotavik:  N/A
Erinaum:  40%
Atenisia:  N/A
Avalonia:  20%
Galaumia:  40%
Aspidis:  100%
Caprica:  70%
Varansk:  40%
Seneca:  Inactive
Calzone:  70%
Hlaohamarr:  80%
Plexia:  40%
Auria:  80%
Espovon:  40%

All values generated at random.

After a very long period of stagnation the government decides assess its current situation.

Aurian diplomats are received with open arms (sorry for taking so long)

Aurian diplomats would like to discuss a full trade agreement for the mutual prosperity of our countries. The council has fully agreed with this and the diplomats are ready to prepare any treaties or documents necessary.

Aurians accept the local nomads, citizenship is open for the nomads who have lived on the lands for a while.

Aurian intellectuals have discovered an alloy, steel. They figured out that a bloomery, as they are called, could create this iron and carbon alloy. (Steel was discovered around the iron age (1200 - 1 BC for Europe).)
