I'm absolutely baffled by the sheer handicapation in this thread.

"this is how you do it"
"no das wrong"
"y"
"becuz I was taught betr then u were"

the answer is in your hearts
you'll get a heart attack soon

I still don't understand who thought you to do multiplication before division if division comes first in the equation. Like did the teacher teach you this or did you misinterpret the lesson?

48÷2(9+3)
48÷2(9)+3
48÷18+3
8/3+3
17/3

Duh

???

yes the answer was on page 1, what are you talking about? I'm saying that this topic was inactive since around 6am but someone started posting in it again, even though the problem was solved yesterday.
page 1 was 11 pages ago, just like 2012 was 2 years ago.

12-11=1

oh boy another problem to argue about

I already solved it guys.
It's not ambiguous if you use the standard math conventions that mathematicians have been using for centuries now.

The equation has multiple answers and is ambiguous.

The order of operations is complete dogstuff and teaches you how to get the answer the teacher wants.

The real answer is that there is none because the equation was formulated wrongly.

Ugh no, it's not ambiguous... You do it from left to right, because multiplication and division are of the same precedence. The parenthesis here are IMPLIED because of that rule: (48/2)(9+3)

wait, so do you do the parentheses left to right? i forgot

or does it matter

stuff

yes
(9+3) would be the same as 9+3
its always left to right

no that's obvious

i mean if there's more than one pair of parentheses
