I'd like to have the point-defense shoot down the missile coming after Bell but I'll just settle with deploying flares and ducking behind the carrier.
Currently the battle is taking place well in front of the carrier (as your goal is to prevent the drones from reaching it in the first place), and the point defense is probably more on alert for cruiser-killing cruise missiles than dinky heatseekers. Regardless, nothing shot a missile at you yet.
I fire my coaxials at a drone.
It and its wingmate scatter and fly straight at you. Then, by sheer luck, a drone passing behind and below your target gets hit by the shell.
"I should go see what's hiding in the clouds."
As you get closer, you see nothing. Your sensors reflect this, displaying nothing but dead air in front of you. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see something shimmer in the clouds, as though there's a huge glass figure floating there. Before you can get a closer look, your plane warns you about two incoming missiles. It looks like a few of the drones want to keep you away from whatever's hiding there.
Also you ain't telepathic, so unless you actually tell someone what's going on, they aint gonna know.

how fast are the drones?
They're small and jet-powered. Somewhat slower than your planes, but far more maneuverable. That being said, they're still pretty dumb, and no match for a remotely skilled pilot.
