DON'T TAKE NO PASSENGERS

I believe most of the vaults were designed to open after 200 years. Maybe after 200 years he was taken out of cryo ready to be released, only to find everyone else dead or missing. That would be pretty lazy too though.
There ins't any real consistency since there is vault 12 which had it's door designed to stay open permanently, Vault 13 which was to stay shut for 200 years, and Vault 15 which was designed to open up after 50 years.

I looked it up and only two were documented for being designed to open after 200 years. Then again, there were very little that weren't just experiments.

I'm not sure I ever understood why the vaults were giant experiments. Who was gathering and brown townyzing the data? Were they expecting to use what they learned to create a better society or figure something out about the human mind? Was Vault Tec really a project funded by an alien race who was playing with man like lab rats?

Well the earth's natural resources were depleting, there were riots happened all over the US, and with high chance of war the government saw the need for bomb shelters. Officially they were supposed to be bomb shelters, but various competing elements within the government and vault-tec/robco decided to use them more as ant farms. One of those elements being the Enclave.

Yeah, that's the joke. He got it off reddit.

But, why?
I believe it was so that the main Enclave vault knew what to do and what not to do in order to survive and reinhabit the world.

But, why?
Basically either to study the long term effects of isolation, when it's safe to leave, and to stupid and pointless experiments on people for assholish reasons.

Has anyone tried 'Tale of Two Wastelands', Requiem of a Capital (Or something like that), or F3FNV?

All of them are Fallout 3 and NV mergers.
