Author Topic: Wiki: Blockland  (Read 34568 times)

Some parts of the "features" section read a bit too much like an advertisement. It could be modified a little, but it certainly doesn't need instant deletion or a total rewrite.

EDIT: Made some changes to it, but it might need some rewriting in areas. I'm not sure how to phrase the fact that people need to forward ports on their router to host a game - "port forwarding" may only be known to people who actually use Blockland or have more detailed knowledge about computers/networks...

Here's a newspaper source for you: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050225.gtgaming25/BNStory/Technology/AtPlay/

The story was also in the print edition on 25/02/05 Page R33

You know how they got their information?  They read my website and talked to me - but since it's a newspaper and not a youtube video it's the best source ever!  Welcome to the land of wikipedia, where primary sources are discarded in favor of outdated second hand media!

When contacted early this week, Hartman said 20,000 people had downloaded Blockland in the 10 days since it "became big."

Where'd they all go...?

Welcome to the land of wikipedia, where primary sources are discarded in favor of outdated second hand media!

But of course, they need a reliable source, not some guy who made the game and thinks he knows everything.

Referencing a game's own website as a source for game mechanics is perfectly valid.  The Eve Online article does it like 50 times ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eve_online ).

We're not talking about controversial issues or political interpretations, we're talking about plainly observable facts.

Hmmm. I was trying to point out the idiocy in their logic.

I was making a general comment, not replying to you.  Also sarcasm does not transfer over the internet, you could just as easily have been serious.

Thats obviously talking about the early 0002 days

Ignore this post, delete if wanted. (I posted something that I later found out)

Badspot, I didn't know your game was on The screen savers :o

Didn't you even had a radio interview or something in that way?

Added this. If someone can find the radio interview i'll add that as a reference too. (I cant find it because the search is borked)

Edit: found it: http://radio.laml.org/lamlradio-13-blockland/

An amazing reference.

Yes, the Wikipedia system sucks ass, but that is just the way it works.

But of course. However people could interpret it as they wish, I'm not very picky. I usually just explain myself later if the need arises. (As I thought it had)
