They do nothing if you grab them from creative because they don't have any customization. You have to craft them manually with all the little bits and stuff to get effects. You can add trails and twinkling, specific shapes, colors. More gunpowder to longer times until they go off. You can put multiple Firework Stars into a Rocket for thicker, combined effects.

I feel like the trail and twinkle effects should be part of the rockets themselves, and not the individual stars, but then I guess you couldn't layer that effect.

I just realized and tested. In the snapshot, you can finally put things like redstone, levers, repeaters, etc. directly on top of blocks like crafting tables, furnaces, and dispensers by holding sneak. This has been in mods forever - finally in vanilla. I'm adding it to the wiki, as no one else has noticed it. I guess I accidentally did it from mod experience.

I was kind of disappointed how quickly I finished all of the research

now I'm just kinda sitting here making a spice rack with essentia phials while tweedle dee and tweedle dumb farm crops

there's a brain in a jar and a third level wand I guess but I can't find any more brain zombies and I can't seem to research anything else
