We have been using them for gaming.
For a very long time.

But not in this way, and for good reason.

Atomontage doesn't need orchestral music and some mouthbreathing douche to look impressive. And look! Stuff moves! These "little atoms" can actually be interacted with.

If you want to be a smartass, I can link back to when I posted a link to atomontage several months ago and quote your post and say "already posted".

Do so my good sir.

did no one read notch's post? the video in OP is completely fake, even at the bare minimum the amount of data they're talking about would take 170,000 3TB harddrives to store. that's if each point was 1 byte of data (and in reality you'd need a bit more data per point to do things like color)

Yeah, we read it.

I'm psyched about Atomontage now though.

Black holes exist, but that doesn't mean we can use them to travel through space and time. (first person to 'correct' me gets a trophy)
somebody hasn't read a brief history of time.

i don't really find that terribly reliable.

It's made in a bad voxel renderer, then.

(if you're wondering, I consider this a good voxel renderer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sfWYUgxGBE&feature=channel_video_title)

(thanks to the search engine being broken and not finding this post when I looked for 'voxel', I had to scan through my old posts page by page to dig this up)

Cool, thanks bro.

I think it looks like garbage anyways so nice job making a new system that does nothing.

LOL what a stupid kid

I don't know if any of you guys saw the original video posted a year ago, but they mentioned that they use a search algorithm in order to find just the points they need to show and work with. Consider how Google can retrieve your search results almost instantly, and how many pages they've cataloged.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was real, we haven't had a graphical breakthrough in quite some time.
