wat
Throwing? I have nothing in throwing, just swordsmanship and shield using. And wrestling, I always strangle pesky enemies.
And civilians are ruthless, the warriors retreat a lot, but the civilians get enraged every time they are near death, and usually take down 2 enemys before dying.
I'm sorry that was ambiguous the throwing was an unrelated note. Also, my warriors have never retreated and I have been playing forever.

:U
Mine always retreat if they are hurt, then come back. The civilians though, they stay the and fight to the death.

Lol, I have heavy clothes on, near impossible for anyone without a hammer to mortally wound me.
And my civvy's protect me.

Civvies are so last age, real men walk around with prisoner night creatures guarding them.

Can someone please explain how to set up a magma forge?  I haven't found a magma pool yet, but when  do, I want to harness the delicious red stuff.

I need help with the following:

- Making a metalworker's workshop. It tells me to get a heat-proof furnace or something: Can't find in menu

- Setting up a WORKING military: Spider (In picture) annihilated most of my civilians because the army was asleep or something.

- Water: Everyone keeps complaining of thirst despite the lake right next to the fort >=(

- Getting to magma: All orders are cancelled to mine "warm rock"...

That's because them dwarves want themselves some good ol BEER or other ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES which you should provide for them.

You need a material that can tolerate heat. Dig some more.

Edit:
So, I have a Legendary+4 (Level 19) Siege Operator, and I have him sitting in my surface fortress behind a fortification in a ballista. I know he should be able to see and fire through that single fortification in front of the ballista, but just then a goblin ambushing party walked right in his line of fire about 30 tiles out and he didn't do anything. The goblins should have been minced meat within seconds, but not a single siege arrow was fired.
what's going on?

I have a 160*160 room  FULL of all ores from levels 17-106, I just can't find "Furnace" in any workshop menu.

DON'T DRINK THE loving WATER

I've made the mistake of forcing the dwarves to only drink water. They go ballistic. They forget stuff up and don't stop until they get a swig of alcohol.

Dwarves really don't like to be told "No" do they?

Anyway, solved my metal issue...stupid traders need to bring me a stupid anvil -.-

No, they love being commanded around and told what to do all the time, it's just that nobody, and I mean NOBODY messes with their drink

Well, lots of barrels and still-working later nobody's complaining. However, I have 3 dwarves with heads bashed in and torn brains (??!??) because of a goblin.

What's the best way to deal with massive amounts of useless stone?
