Because no matter how much you (or nature) breeds a dog, it will still be a dog, and it will only be able to reproduce with other dogs.

Perhaps in a short period of time. But if you change the characteristics enough to no longer fit the definition of Dog, then you have a new species. Animals had billions of years to change, dog breeding isn't even close to as long.

Perhaps in a short period of time. But if you change the characteristics enough to no longer fit the definition of Dog, then you have a new species. Animals had billions of years to change, dog breeding isn't even close to as long.

It just takes a little bit of logic. Dog breeding changes dogs within a relatively short amount of time. Multiply that by a billion years and you have extremely dramatic changes.

The problem here is that there eventually becomes a point when breeding ability becomes sporadic. As two species slowly diverge, their breeding ability diminishes and it will eventually be impossible to breed with each other.
