Yeah its boost clocks. It's an XFX R9 290 DD. Yeah it can go that high Bisjac, just look at my furmark score. It ran that stable with no artifacts whatsoever, with 5 back-to-back benchmarks to test temperature cap. It works 100% on benchmarks, but when I run Grid 2, it barley goes above 600MHzz. I get 20-30 FPS on Grid 2, but get this- no matter what graphics settings I use. BF3 runs at 10 FPS with no GPU activity listed at all. Counter Strike GO actually works fine at the highest settings (70 fps), but it still hovers around 600-700 MHz, it just isn't a massively demanding game.

The CCC's little "activity graph" will stay at 0%, then jump to 70% or maybe even 100%, but it will never stay up there and actually run the loving game with good frames. Can't believe I paid $1200 for a machine that can run a game that my laptop could and a benchmark.

Before you tell me to use driver wiper and redo the drivers, let me tell you the hell I've been living.
The "stable" driver from AMD for my card will crash the system every 2-3 minutes, even in idle, with a kernal power error. I reinstalled Windows 7, and did drivers, no dice. I installed Windows 8.1 and had all the drivers ready to go on a flash drive. I used the "beta" driver from AMD and that will actually work and let me play SOME games.

Your GPU is likely being bottlenecked by another component in your system. It's possible that the FX 8350 may not be capable of enough data throughput to feed the GPU. Run a game and look at your CPU core usage at the same time and see if any of the CPU cores hit 100%.

Is grid a ported game? Many big titles are being 30 capped right now because of bullstuff.
Also the 200 series hasnt had a driver update in like a year.

I see benchmarks for the same combo as my system running Grid 2 at 80+FPS on Ultra.

No, the usage hovers around 75%, with Grid 2 using about 20% independently. The processor is not overclocked and is running with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo.

The day that an r9 290 is bottlenecked by an 8350 is the day that my SLI 970's are being bottlenecked by my i5 4690k

Well, I ended up getting the Corsair M65 mouse and Sennheiser PC 363 headphones.

My brother had the M65 among some other mice and I liked using it. It has the closest feel to my old Logitech G9X mouse as well. I bought the headphones from the used Amazon warehouse deals option for $40 less than listed. The one I got only had an open box so why not? My brother had a pair of HD 650s and those things are amazing. I like having an integrated mic and $180 is a much better price point than $600+ for the headphones and his external amp lol. They should be better than my older PC 350s at least.

That should be the last of my purchases for this PC for awhile. Here is the part listing:

Is the GTX 980 Ti worth the ~$700? And which one is the "best" one?

EDIT:

What do you guys think of this build? I'm selling my current rig for $600

Wait for Skylake.

a 620 is a low-mid end at best. but 10 bucks is an amazing deal. i seen a 2gig 610 at walmart for 60 bucks. so this is pretty good.

found what was taking up my disk space lol

today i thought the bricktop spun its last. i hit the power button and it spun up for a second, and then switched off and wouldn't respond to anything (even though the on light was still on, the battery light wasn't on). i left the battery out for a few minutes and stuck it back in and the laptop turned on immediately.

it lives for another day

Took this pic today.

I moved across the country recently and my brother mailed me some of my noncritical stuff in USPS flat rate boxes. It's been three and a half weeks and there has been no sign of the packages so at this point I'm assuming they were lost or stolen.
Since I know everyone totally cares, my brother actually received the packages he sent me back in the mail yesterday, a whopping four weeks after he originally sent them out. They couldn't be delivered for some unexplained reason despite having the correct address.

forget USPS.

curious question but was your car too full to stuff your PC in there?

I sold my car before leaving and only took what I could fit in checked luggage and a carry-on bag on the plane. I have a few boxes back home full of small knick-knacks and clothes mostly.
