Author Topic: How do we force darkness on people without shaders?  (Read 49962 times)

I turn it off for building but for specific gamemodes I would like to have it on and enforce it on.

Same with physics. If I could enforce physics for gamemodes I would.

i thought v21 broke negative lights tho

wait what
i thought bl was in 2004
the old version, with lego minifigs, yes

what?

what?
brick physics, like fakekill

if they don't want physics it's their loss, it just makes it look less pretty

The same could be said for shaders, however when you create something with these features in mind (physics traps, dark environments) it is going to be frustrating for your design when people disable the features then complain or abuse these settings.

physics traps
1: what does this mean
2: why would it be less effective if they had physics disabled

basically using the -visual illusion- of brick physics to make it look like you get crushed by a giant brick or something

so if your brick physics are off they don't appear and you have no idea what happens

it's their loss don't force it

I've used brick physics as illusions to set traps.

A lot of people don't know what is going on when it happens.

This doesn't really change the fact that TGE is literally 90's software.

he reason why people aren't upgrading their hardware is because they don't have $400-$1000 to drop on a new computer. nobody is going to buy a better machine just to play one game, especially if all their other games run perfectly fine due to proper optimization.
I have two GPUs that are very likely under $50 that can both run at least minimum with over 100k bricks.

given that this post was made in february 2007, it's probably safe to say no
Blockland was made in 2004. The only thing done with graphics was the addition of fxdtsbrick objects, removal of interior and terrain objects, and introduction of shaders. Some of these happened in 2012.

a lot of people classify pre-retail differently from post-retail, though. BL retail was released in late 2007-early 2008 if i recall correctly...

Alpha was even harder to run than retail, in relation to brick and player count.
Alpha used static shapes, which are much more performance impacting than fxdtsbricks.
Alpha also used mounted image and skintag based appearances, which are more performance impacting than nodes and colorshifting.

So yeah, it was different. It should be more likely to be able to run minimum shaders than it was to run v0002.

If you want to play games you don't need a high-end pc, you might just want it for flash games or small games, also you're conflicting with Zeblote as 6 years ago was a long time ago, shut up with your "low-end pc people are ruining high-end pc gamers experiences!!!!" and actually think for a second.

You really gonna put Blockland in the same category as flash/small games? forget you, if you literally bought your PC to play loving flash games you can shove it up your loving ass if you think anyone developing games in 2016 needs to cater to you. Your computer has about the same graphical/processing power as a carrot anyway, so you might as well.

And yeah, me and Zeblote are not literally the same person, go figure. 2010 standards is loving generous. Crysis came out in 2008, along with GTA4, FO3 and Far Cry 2. 8 loving years ago. I guarantee you you cannot run any of these games if your stuffputer can't handle Blockland on minimum. It's time to upgrade your computer for the first time in 8 years, because the rest of us are moving forward with the video game market. If your computer can only handle 2005 Blockland, then go play 2005 Blockland by yourself while the big boys play 2016 Blockland.

How about you 'think for a second' about that stuff.

right. hardcore gamers only! nobody else deserves to play video games
if you can't afford a brand spanking new computer you shouldn't be allowed to have fun, that's what I always say

And because frugal scumforgets refuse to fork out money for any kind of gaming system beyond Microsoft's latest cash grab, the rest of the gaming industry needs to sit around with their thumb up their ass waiting for, what, casual gamers? Not-gamers? stuffty gamers? It's a hobby chuckleforget, you either get the $10 walmart brand or you fork out $$$ for the real deal. The amount of fun you have is directly proportional to the amount of money you're willing to invest into the hobby. This is how it works, it's how it's always worked. Old versions of Blockland aren't that hard to find.

They work with the OFF setting (lol) but it's impractical because you'd need a negative light coming from all 6 directions to simulate darkness. Blockland has a hard visible light cap of 8... but now that I think about it... it might be possible to do this with Zeblote's fix. Not entirely sure though. Besides, all they would have to do is set it to minimum, which you break negative lights, giving them fullbright floors and objects lol

Holy stuff, how many times do I need to say this, actually LOOK at my post, I didn't say blockland is in the same category as flash games, and stop trying to be such a smart-ass about my computer being a "carrot" It's good enough to run things like Game Dev Tycoon and Blockland on the off setting.

Plus, just because a computer can't play AAA games doesn't mean it's stuff, some people just want to casually play games, they buy fallout 4 but oh no, they don't have a good enough graphics card to play it! Tough stuff, they play another game instead and don't whine about it, when you say nearly everyone does.

Can I set negative lights through enviornment settings instead?
