Tbh, we really aren't as ridiculous as you think. Yes, there's otherkin, there's "zer", there's probably someone out there who actually does identify as an attack helicopter, but that's not nearly the majority of the trans community. Most trans people I know are going through hormone treatments and surgeries and actively trying to look like their actual gender (not to be confused with biological love). Most of them either look androgynous or very passable, to the point where you wouldn't know they were trans unless you were really trying to look.
Think of it this way, this is less of mutilation and more of correction. Think about if you were the exact same person you are now, but born in the body of the opposite love, even though you feel like whatever you are now, and you found out about hormone treatments and surgeries that would change your body to be as close as possible to being born in the right body. Often what causes mental issues associated with being trans is not being able to be yourself, and being forced to live as a boy or girl, whichever you're not.
Purposely referring to someone by the wrong name or referring to a guy or girl as vice versa is also just a richard move. If someone told you their name was Joe, would you call them Bob because you thought it fit them better?
