Author Topic: For Honor thread [OUT NOW!]  (Read 54982 times)

I spent like 5 minutes trying my hardest to get the timing right on parrying and despite my best efforts to press the button at every conceivable millisecond during the time the arrow is on screen, I barely managed to get the 3 I needed to proceed in the tutorial

5 more minutes later I managed to get 1 more parry and decided that it must be some kind of frame-perfect, last resort thing and stopped trying

I guess I just don't have the reflexes required for this game
are you swinging as the arrow shows up or the arrow starts flashing and blinking to signify its time to parry

I started out pressing the button when the arrow flashed like it says in the tutorial, but after failing about 20 parries in a row I assumed I must be doing something wrong and started doing it at every possible moment between the time the arrow shows up and I get hit, none of which worked consistently

I had a similar problem with the guard break counter too actually, I seriously had to look it up and found a post where someone suggested just "mashing the button" and it worked (not for parrying though, unfortunately)

which class are you playing? i think parrying is MUCH easier when you play as a warden

also i was playing with myst and he disconnected the SAME time someone readied up and that player took his spot in the menu along with mysts character making this abomination

unfortunately for me, I'm playing warden

i can agree about the guard braking counter. i can never get that to work.

anyways, make sure you're in the actual blocking position when you parry

as in make sure if they're hitting you from the left, you parry from the left

ok, well, I started a duel with a bot and now I can parry totally fine

I guess there was a bug in the tutorial or something

the game has garbage tutorials

the arrow flashes twice, on the second flash you can parry

same thing with countering guard breaking, it's right after you get hit rather than right as you get hit

been playing this game for the past 3 hours and its loving dope, orichi is really difficult but incredibly good, especially in dominion
conqueror is great too, love that he can block heavy attacks

has anyone figured out what all the stats mean? i cant find any sort of guide online to what gear does. somes kinda self explanatory, like "attack" and "block damage reduction", but others are very vague like "exhaustion recovery" vs "stamina recovery"

This game is pretty cool other than the fact that I have no idea wtf is going on. The tutorial was pretty straight forward (as in, way too straight forward) and I played an AI match and kicked ass but the minute I got online there were just kinda tons of wizard samurai doing all this gay magic ability stuff

Also the ui sucks

but others are very vague like "exhaustion recovery" vs "stamina recovery"
exhaustion is when you run out of stamina during combat and move/attack slow with a gray screen. you leave that mode when your stamina regens back to full so that has its own recovery stat

When some friends and i went online we got our asses beat hard.
We started out okay, winning against some people who did not practise beforehand like we did but then the matchmaking couldn't find us a match in even remotely our skill level and it found some stompers which stomped us.
I am baffled by the things people can pull off and as much as i want to do what they do, i just can't... Yet...?
So far, i can see quite some depth in the battle system, but the rest feels so shallow, unexplained.
I hope this is something they somehow, for some reason, left out of the beta, but there is a lot that remains unexplained or poorly explained.

Would be nice if they for example added some kind of mode where you could practice the different combo's in.
I mean, you can do a 1 vs 1 bot match i guess, but that is where the support for all the combo's ends.
Oh right you can watch the in-game video... Great stuff.

I don't hate the game, but loving it... Eeeeeh, not as much as i want to.

is there a way to check progress on the faction war online?

the tutorial doesn't cover enough of how to play the game

go to How To Play and do the advanced tutorial. it helps a lot of but still not enough

all i can say is that there are small windows of opportunity when dodging, parrying, and even attacking. you won't guarantee yourself to learn these timings very soon, but eventually once you know every single players attacks your brain will click when to react properly at the right moment.

think of it this way, i played the closed beta for three days but i didn't actually master warden until my last day.

things I'd pay attention to

learning the parry window for each classes heavy attacks. - for instance, vikings parry Windows are VERY late compared to other classes.
learning combos and preventing opponent combos. - some characters are guaranteed a 2rd or third hit with a combo of the first attack lands. look at the beserkers spin attack for example. learn your own combos by going to the move set in the menu in-game

this game feels like utter bullstuff when you start. it's just something you gotta wipe your mind and rethink how to do things

I don't really get why people don't think games like this are worth 60 dollars.  People used to pay this much if not more for games back in the day, and those games were nowhere nearly as polished or didn't have nearly as much work and effort put into them.  Honestly surprised, but nontheless happy, that games aren't becoming more expensive to play (not counting DLC's and stuff like that).

If you don't want the game that's fine, but if it's not worth 60 dollars to you then what is worth that to you?  Some headphones or some stuff?

What the forget is the weird fire attack thing which is basically just a free hit lmfao? I can't block it and dodging as a viking is basically a joke
