Alright just SHUT THE PANDA UP.  THATS RIGHT!  I TYPED OUT PANDA!  NOT THE WORD THAT GETS REPLACED WITH PANDA!  DEAL WITH IT!!!

Anywho, this argument between 0002 and retail is just asinine.  Its just like debating which is better: Halo or Marathon.  Halo would probably win (I'm not sure, but I'm 95% sure that it would win...) but yet, people still play it.

Why?  BECAUSE WE ARE CHEAP! (Wait...  Thats my reason)  Oh, and its more open source.  Deal with it.

Its also like an deciding which is better: books or ebooks.  eBooks are more portable, take up less room (a whole library on your PDA!), and are more accessible.  Why doesn't everyone have a ebook then?

Well, either they lack the means to get one, or its too expensive, right?  Well, yeah, but theres another reason...

There is something about a book that ebooks will never (well, with now day technology) be emulated.  Theres a certain connection between a reader and a printed piece of literature that is appealing.  Maybe its the texture, maybe its the author of this post being too metaphoric, but there is just something about that outdated piece of dead tree material...

Same with 0002.  There is more to it than just the game.  Its the experiences, ideas, and people behind it keeping it alive.  Until you emulate that (or tell me it wont cost $40), I will join you.  Until then, no way.

The reason I say the cost of retail is $40 is due to the fact that Blockland Retail v2 will probably also cost $20.  I ain't going to pay twice.  Either tell me that accounts will roll over, or don't plan on making a new version...

One more thing, Keal says "Hi!"

So the supercomputer-network processes everything and just sends the player what they are seeing or something along those lines?

That's the basic idea. Anyways, the whole "Unity" thing isn't 100% confirmed as a feature, unlike dynamic water.

So, your idea for the game is to turn it into a video feed? That is sadder then I though, look at a website like youtube, that is about the maximum quality of video your going to get out of any normal high speed internet connection. Also, your completely ignoring dial-up users. They are out there, and they can play blockland with just slightly longer loading times as the only difference.

A video feed? Yes, basically. Isn't that essentially what a UI is? A video feed from your computer tower to your monitor? If I'm missing some teleportation element of basic computing, alert me please.

this would cause a ridiculous amount of network lag for many players, you should hold each user responsible for running their own game, while the server connects us. or you will need many many many very expensive servers.
The whole point of using other people's computers to create a supercomputer network would erase the need for "many many many very expensive servers".

For gods sake not this stuff again

Isn't that essentially what a UI is? A video feed from your computer tower to your monitor?

its not the same thing though, a cord running from a video card to a monitor is instant brown townog data (or digital for some)
while a feed from another server requires uploading and downloading with many steps in itself, THEN processing, THEN data to monitor

would be godly to think a good game can process and render itself, taking the pressure off our computers, but the next steps is what hiders it from greatness, our connections. and speeds that the data can be used

a game like this sounds good written down, but for the users, there would seem to be lots of hardware and internet requirements to play at all. rather then low to high quality that other games offer.

Well, he said that all the idle computers working together would create this big network that has very fast network connection, and this connection will send a video feed of each persons view which like Sig said, eliminates lag. Considering this network only uses IDLE computers, as soon as a person starts moving their mouse after a period of time, they are taken off this "Idle" list. So the more computers just sitting there on the game, the faster the active ones can play. This system, unity, is the system that sig has been trying to explain but it hasn't been able to come through most of your thick heads.

[offtopic]Sigfig thinks you are the most intelligent person here Ephi, because you can actually word things out properly and give good reasons for things instead of blabbing out ice cream like most of these people are.[/offtopic]

Also, just a note, you will only need to download 1 program to use unity. The rest is done for you. If you choose not to download it, you can render everything with your graphics card. But once it's downloaded, everything in BL: S Is immediately rendered through Unity, which allowed pretty much any computer with an internet connection to play online almost lag free.

i understand the concept, and it sounds like a cool idea. but i dont see it actually being better then having users use thier own hardware. supercomputers sure are good, but doing all this processing for even 30 users can be a killer.

what brand/model server (or whatever the supercomputer) is this?

Bisjac, the idea is that inactive users turn over their PC to be used for processing.

Which is why network lag will be a killer. And not to mention I don't think anyone would agree to that.

why the hell would i afk so others can leech my bandwidth and use my computer :\

The reason I say the cost of retail is $40 is due to the fact that Blockland Retail v2 will probably also cost $20.  I ain't going to pay twice.  Either tell me that accounts will roll over, or don't plan on making a new version...
Your logic seems to be impaired and needs some fixing.

Guys, It's obvious all your flaming efforts combined are just making these guys' egos grow larger. If we ignore this topic and therefore ignore they're hunger for attention they will eventually give up.

As someone who excelled at RTB, I have to say Retail is way more fun. Period.

Hahaha why are we even discussing this video feed thing?  It's an idea that only a small child could come up with.  I can't even believe anyone would post it.  It's either a troll with incredible dedication or the saddest thing I've ever seen.  I seriously lol'd.

robotguy4, you're paranoid.  Just buy the damn thing.  There's no sequel or expansion pack coming any time soon, just the free updates.

And now for something completely different....

i kinda get it, but kinda don't :\

And now for something completely different....

Ah I love Creased Comics. Haha
