there's a growing movement that opposes april fools day pranks because "they're annoying". google being a big one, they haven't done a prank since 2019.
given that every big tech company wants to copy each other, most of them saw what google was doing and joined in.

even reddit didn't do one this year, and they always have something up for april fools.
evidently google quit doing it during the pandemic and haven't done it since because they are a bunch of snowflakes. even dumber is the verge saying "thank you"

if only there was an online version of this. i could imagine someone potentially making an online version, similar to how people made smash melee online
seems you can use netplay on ePSXe for this, although I haven't tested online functionality for this particular emulator so I'm unsure of how well it works. maybe give it a try?

i always reopen my PS2 for some Mortal Kombat Armageddon (2006) and Twisted Metal 4 (1999). idk if late 90s/mid 2000s count as "retro" but they do take me back
Armageddon was good but as far as Mortal Kombat on PS2, my favorite was Shaolon Monks. amazingly fun couch co-op adventure. I still remember back when I first discovered the game on a ps2 demo disk all the fatalities were censored lol.

Twisted Metal 4, now that is a game I have played hundreds of times throughout the years. A bona fide classic! My brother and I still play that game every once in a while when we are hanging out on the weekends, though sometimes we opt to play Crash Bash instead.

all of my pre-hdmi consoles now go through a retrotink upscaler and stuff looks good on the 4k tv i have everything connected to. the setup covers everything from ps1/n64 to xbone/ps4/wii u, its pretty awesome
I got a similar product for my soft-modded PS2, they really do a great job at improving the picture quality on newer TVs/monitors

I recently modded a SNES Classic Mini Console, installed retro-arch and a number of emulators on it. there is a branch of scummVM core that runs on retro-arch so I've been experimenting around with a number of old PC games on the system - they run fine after some adjustments to audio settings to stop crackling but I still can't figure out how to get games for this specific core to save.

oh, this reminded me of one that irks me

when there are help docs but it's some pdf scans of an old book with no actual way of searching through them using ctrl+f, instead you gotta actually use the "table of contents" page to find wtf your looking for and hope it's actually in that section and not some arbitrary info tip in some other completely unrelated section

on a side note, the K-Lite codec pack is great thing to have to natively play other types of sound/video such as .flv .mov .ogg .ogm, and more in windows media player natively
