Does anyone else feel like they've seen Splatoon somewhere before?

I think during the 2011 (or 2012) E3 when Nintendo revealed the Wii U and some prototype games for it, an early version of this game was among them.

So far the Treehouse thing showed this "Fantasy Life" 3DS exclusive made by the Professor layton devs. It's a "Do whatever you want everything is random" RPG.

Apparently it has 21 000 pages of text dialog
