I mentioned it because some people were separating them like so: (48/2)*(9+3)
right, well, they should be separated like that, except not really
it's 48/2(9+3)
and you do parentheses first. absolutely. there is no question about that. you do NOT do the distributive property first. that isn't even in the order of operations. you do parentheses first

so it's
48/2(9+3)
48/2*12
24*12
288

How, exactly, do you enter it on your calculator? It is possible it's misinterpreting it.
48/2*(9+3) and 48/2(9+3). Same results.

Oh wait. For some reason I was thinking the / symbol as a horizontal divider and that it meant everything in front of it above it and everything after it below it.

I've never really used / in actual math before, oops.

If there is nothing after the 2 then it's times (See: Algebra)
48/24 = 2

there you go the answer is two you monogloids.
What the forget, mate.

It's LEFT-TO-RIGHT, and Division/Multiplication are the same priority, and Addiction/Subtraction are the same priority.

How are you not getting this?

Division and multiplication are a set, same with addition and subtraction so their order remains the same.

okay guys how about we all just shut up and get along and say that it's both 2 and 288

we must face a larger enemy

6÷2(1+2)

you've got the first two parts right. MD and AS are both sets. but their order is not M -> D -> A -> S, it is M/D (left to right) -> A/S (left to right)
6÷2(1+2)
9
