Author Topic: How do we force darkness on people without shaders?  (Read 49964 times)

I had performance issues at about 80k bricks with my GeForce 620. With my new GTX 960 even up to 300k bricks there is no issue.

i can definitely run shaders now but having played on bad machines for most of my time on blockland i really disagree with everyone who's asking for the removal of "off"

it's also really useful for building since it helps make stuff lighter and easier to see

he reason why people aren't upgrading their hardware is because they don't have $400-$1000 to drop on a new computer. nobody is going to buy a better machine just to play one game, especially if all their other games run perfectly fine due to proper optimization.

My old computer took about 30 minutes to load a scene on Fallout 3. I asked everyone if this is normal and they tell me it only takes like 2 seconds.

Since I upgraded I NEVER want to go back.

I even originally bought a cheap 500 dollar PC from walmart after the windows XP and it turns out not only it couldn't run shaders on minimum it couldn't even support AA. So I returned it and bought an 800 dollar computer which could run blockland's shaders on max.

My HP Pavilion a367c literally died from just Blockland. It was the last game that computer played.

yes but you see tony not everyone has a way to upgrade

my first computer was a massive piece of trash that couldn't even run minimum; i switched over to a SLIGHTLY better laptop in aug 2014, which allowed me to run shaders (albeit not very well). it was still pretty damn expensive and was based on a one time occasion (my dad sold a thing he'd had for ages)

in dec of last year i switched over to this pc. it's got a really good processor and stuff but the graphics card is still lacking, so i prefer to run the game at off or minimum to get the most out of my framerate. this switch was also based on a one time occasion (my brother gave me his old pc that he hadn't used in quite a while)

my point is, some people (romania sucks) can't afford to just switch computers on a whim

Yes it is.
if you're the kinda person who upgrades your computer every other year to play brand new AAA video games, sure. but a computer from 2010 wouldn't be out of place in a normal person's house
Do you want the game to look 10 years old?
there were games released in 2006 that look better than blockland does now, so... sure?
the shaders didn't make that big of a difference. it's just lighting, and you still can't have more than like 8 lights at once
There is definitely a need when they're inconveniencing people who actually give a forget about keeping their computer up to date with like, 2010+ standards lmfao. Who needs them? They obviously don't take the industry very seriously so we certainly shouldn't take them seriously.
right. hardcore gamers only! nobody else deserves to play video games
if you can't afford a brand spanking new computer you shouldn't be allowed to have fun, that's what I always say

Wasn't blockland released or made before 2006?

ya 2004

That explains why games from 2006 look better than a game from 2004.

Wasn't blockland released or made before 2006?
given that this post was made in february 2007, it's probably safe to say no

Can someone post a link to the negative lights mentioned earlier? I need them for a build im making

wait what
i thought bl was in 2004

I ignored that part because you failed to explain why it was a bad idea. Because a small population of people refuse to spend more than $30 on a GPU? I don't understand why we need to cater to stuffty hardware just because we can, if it holds back the game in any way, no matter how small, there should be no hesitation in dropping the forget out of it
you're ignoring the fact that not everyone has the independence, knowledge, or the accessibility to get even cheap computer parts to upgrade their computer. note that theres a pretty large young playerbase and they would have no idea what they need to improve their computer performance, much less the ability to either make those upgrades themselves or convince their parents to do so.

blockland has always straddled both the low and upper tiers of computers and suddenly dropping the lower tier would likely result in a drastic loss of playercount. before january 2015 my computer, the best in my family, could only run 40k bricks on no shaders without lagging a ton.

scroll down to "light_negative", fellow!

i agree with some others, off is very good for building since there's no solid white highlights and obscuring shadows
