limited character choice, super old, newer releases
To all of these, I could say Marvel vs. Capcom 2. There's not a lot of team variety at the high level, but it survived over 10 years just because it's a great game. I wish I knew more about it but it's not really my cup of tea to actually play, so I don't know anything about the scene really
i give melee 1 year max before it goes out of style
honestly if people are still clinging on to this game in 2017 i'll attempt to eat a hat
I'll hold you to that. Just kidding though, I'd probably forget by then.
expected replies: but the DEPTH eh so COMPETITIVE
But... that's why people are playing it competitively because of its depth and competitiveness? That's what makes a good competitive game.
I think even the 64 scene is bigger than the Brawl scene now because 4 came out and 64 has just been slowly growing anyway cuz it's a good forgetin' game and is different than all the others. But Smash 4 is almost like a Brawl 2.0 kind of situation, so...
i'm fairly sure people only cling onto melee because they're afraid to step off
i'm
fairly sure you're stupid
and what would make someone afraid to step off melee? there's always the other 3 smash games to play
this is a huge problem with the melee 'community'
smash 4 and brawl are completely different games
they're not trying to be melee
Okay, and now you defeat your own point. Why would we move on to a different game if we like the older one? Especially when the new games are, as you said,
completely different.
if you want a clone of melee in each release, you're going to end up with a call of duty-esque franchise
A clone of melee with more characters, better balance (cough: project m), and probably some small mechanics tweaks would actually be pretty nice, IMO.
The thing is though, you realize that you could really easily call Smash 4 a Brawl clone?
They feel very similar. The major differences are in ledge Annoying Orangeing, shieldstun, no chaingrabs, and no hitstun cancelling, but overall the game is still very Brawl. There's still barely any combos unless you play the best characters (or play a character that use one move a bunch to combo), the gameplay is pretty heavily defensive, there's multiple airdodges in the air (which you can do even faster now, i might add), there's still ledge-snapping, there's still not a lot of movement options, etc. The characters fall a little faster, but not a lot.
but why do i bother trying to argue against melee in this melee-hugbox of a thread? i don't even know that myself
