oh yeah? but did you know robert e lee respected women?

god bless

Did you know Robert pet kittens once?

i don't think the real issues people have with the statue have much to do with lee as a person, i feel like it's much more likely that people are upset about the fact that he's a sort of figurehead for the confederacy and its ideals, and that stands regardless of who he actually was

robert was a man of integrity

just as a side note i went to arlington a few years ago and it was hot as forget how could anyone live there without ac

i've never seen a southern house built in the last century that didn't have ac because you would die on the spot

what exactly are you saying? at least they did something good? it was a different time? society was still advancing?

You don't fix a developing countries issues by instating laws that make swooping motions to change things. A stable developing country needs to incrementally fix its issues. You have generations of people with differing opinions trying to do what they think best for the country, or themselves, or their family, or whatever motive they could conceivably have. There will always be opposition, and the fairest way to create change is to have compromise. How the forget do you think the Constitution was written? This appeases all sides while simultaneously moving and progressing your government and country.

so robert e lee is suddenly no longer a white supremacist

He was and possibly continued to be until his death, but at least he made amends to create a more equal America.

dude i remember someone getting a loving heatstroke and having to get a firetruck up the goddamn hill

at least he made amends to create a more equal America.
he also owned slaves, which no amount of 'amends' can fix unless he like, personally gave each of those slaves like a grant of millions of dollars as an apology or some stuff

badspot once summarized this phenomenon pretty well, i can't seem to find it. basically he said that doing unrelated good things doesn't balance out the bad things you did before. if you go on a hacking spree and then try to justify your character or glorify yourself because you were nice to a couple people and contributed an add-on, you don't necessarily deserve the respect.

hopefully you understand where im coming from when i express this- there's no such thing as redemption. doing good for other people is a standard, a given, and it doesn't at all excuse or balance out all the stuffty stuff you did

PhantOS historically misses a point

I care about non-white people, women, and LGBT people, all of which are targets of white supremacist political action.

The peak of privilege is being able to ignore white supremacists because they don't threaten your livelihood.
"Privilege". "My livelihood". Ahaaaaaaah. But you see... I'm no mere man. I'm neither white or black, but a mixture of the two save for my other three minor races that have been thrown into my being.

How can a white man have privilege when he who is white is also black, simultaneously!? I'm a testament to both sides, like Yin and Yang i flow in luminous harmony... Unhinged by current events. Sorry for the potato quality. This was years ago.

Look how loving happy I am. I AM THE BOTH. THE MIDDLE. THE GREY. I AM NEITHER FEARED OR ACCEPTED BY SOCIETY. MY VERY BEING IS AN EXAMPLE OF PURE UNINTERRUPTED HARMONY. WHITE SUPREMACISTS DARE NOT ACKNOWLEDGE MY EXISTENCE BECAUSE TO THEM I AM AN ENIGMA. TO THEM THEY SEE A COALESCENCE OF TWO DIVINE BEINGS INTERTWINED INTO ONE PRIMORDIAL FIGURE. I HAVE NO EQUAL. I AM. I EXIST.

i didn't miss any points. acknowledging the good things someone did is fine, i understand that robert e lee did make some changes that helped people. that's why he's being moved to a museum, to acknowledge his importance in the grand scheme.

acknowledging his importance is not the same as glorifying him, which is what the statue did in the first place. it commemorates him as a person, despite the fact that he was a stuffty person.

Congrats, you reached the same conclusion that everyone else did

You're white-passing and that's a privilege.

You may not feel threatened by white supremacist political action, but that doesn't mean no one does.

then why the forget is he responding to me besides to either dispute it in a very vague way or add on to it in a very misunderstood way? if he was agreeing with me i wouldn't have had to reiterate it
