i think everything (including the birch) is better pixel art, perhaps, but heavily mismatches with the rest of the game. they'd have to redo pretty much every texture to match if they want this to work. i wouldn't mind.

Mojang just got ripped off, these are just the same textures but with tiny differences and then blurred.

I'm reminded of some of the textures in the painterly pack

it looks nice, there's a very small space between what the game has now and the threshold of "too detailed for the game's resolution" but these fit in there nicely

im especially happy with the obsidian, which i think is a huge improvement on the indistinct black color it used to be. purple ridges are much, much nicer than
speckled vanta black.

not particularly happy with the obisidan myself. the old texture was really not that great either, but if they managed to do something that keeps the "rocky shards of black glass" feel that'd be nice

I also like the new textures. A lot of the older textures looked so bad to me, I'm glad Mojang decided to clean them up.

It's going to take a bit of getting used to, also, it will be better if every texture is replaced eventually so that it indeed does not mismatch with the rest.
I did not notice this news though and i follow a lot of Mojang sources, so where did you get that from if i may ask?

just recently got back into the game cus i was bored and i tried out a shader pack cus i haven't before and ooo i'm in love with it

also those new textures are weird it'll take me a bit to get used to them

Logically, yes.
That is when it will be a lot easier to see how you really like it.
I wonder if they keep the old textures as like a default resourcepack.
That would be a clever move i think.
